Cereus peruvianus monstrose, Curiosity Plant, Monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus

This is the "monstrose" form of the Peruvian Apple Cactus (Cereus Peruvianus 'monstrose'). Monstrose means that it has a non-hereditary mutation that causes this cactus, which would otherwise form a tall column, to instead make a continuous profusion of branches. This gives the Monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus a much broader, thicker aspect, sacrificing height for a profusion of growth in all directions. Like all Peruvian Apple Cacti, Cereus Peruvianus monstrose grows large edible fruits when mature. These red cactus apples are very similar to dragon fruit. Of course, the fruit comes from the large white flowers which are five inches in diameter.
The monstrose form grows slower than the regular form of Cereus peruvianus, which along with its unusual shape, makes it especially suitable for succulent dish gardens while it is small.
Although the monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus is a slow grower, it can eventually get quite large. It is sometimes planted in rows to form a natural fence, and can grow as high as 20 feet tall, and nearly as wide.
This is one of the must-have cactus plants for succulent plant collectors.
It is easy to care for. As long as it is allowed to dry out thoroughly between watering and doesn't sit for any period of time in wet soil, it has few problems.
This offer is for either a small Monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus (also called the Curiosity Plant because of its crazy branching shape) planted in a two inch nursery pot OR a large Monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus planted in a four inch nursery pot. Both versions are shown in the pictures.
Your Monstrose Peruvian Apple Cactus will be well-packed for shipping via USPS Priority Mail. Although the Cereus peruvianus can withstand temperatures down to about 35 degrees for short periods, if you're ordering from a region where it is cold, consider adding a 72 hour heat pack and choosing Priority Mail for your order to protect your plants from the cold.
Although we cannot accept returns of live plants, please let us know immediately if there is any problem with your shipment when it arrives. At Sylvan Gardens, our mission is to help you grow good things.

Shipping Times, Methods, and Costs?

Most plants are shipped by USPS Priority Mail or USPS . In cold months we only ship by Priority Mail to minimize shipping times and we strongly recommend that you add a heat pack to your order to protect your plants from cold damage. The heat packs are priced low to cover our cost and can mean the difference between receiving a happy, healthy plant or a plant that is damaged or killed by cold exposure. Our mission is to help you grow good things, and that starts with taking every precaution in shipping to make sure your plant arrives in good condition. If there is any issue with your order when you receive it, please let us know.
