Gasteria bicolor (Gasteria maculata), Lawyer's Tongue, Succulent Plant

Gasteria bicolor (formerly known as Gasteria maculata) is an easy to care for succulent plant. Gasteria bicolor's common name is Lawyer's Tongue for the shape of the leaves and presumably the sharp point at the end of each leaf. Lawyer's Tongue is predominantly a dark green with raised pale green spots as shown in the photos. Areas of new growth made be a lighter shade of green for a time before darkening.
Gasteria bicolor can form raucous clusters of leaves and stems or can present in a more orderly distichous form (having two opposing vertical rows). The Gasteria bicolor (maculata) that are being offered here are the distichous forms. Your Lawyer's Tongue will be potted in a 2" nursery pot as shown in the photos. They are a good, well-behaved addition for succulent dish gardens or as stand-alone plants. Over time, these plants can grow to about 18" tall. As they grow, they may give rise to new shoots around the base. These can be left to help fill out a larger pot, or they can be removed and replanted as separate plants.
Gasteria maculata or Gasteria bicolor's flowering is triggered by long nights. When it flowers it will form a long vertical stalk that can grow a foot long. The flowers are pinkish-orange and measure about three-quarters of an inch in length. They're shaped a bit like inverted gourds.
Gasteria are drought tolerant, but vulnerable to over-watering. Let the soil dry out thoroughly between watering. A complete care instruction sheet will accompany every order.
Lawyer's Tongue prefers warmer temperatures, but can withstand temperatures as low as 35-40 degrees for a short time.
If you're ordering from an area colder than that, consider adding a heat pack to protect your order from cold temperatures. Your Gasteria maculata (Lawyer's Tongue plant) will be well-packed for shipment by either First Class mail or Priority Mail. If combining multiple items, please choose the same shipment option for each item in your order. Etsy sometimes miscalculates shipping charges for multiple items, if this happens I always refund the overage, as soon as I ready your order for shipping and can tell how many boxes and the shipping weight of your order.
While we cannot accept returns of live plants, please let us know immediately if there is any problem with your order when you receive it. At Sylvan Gardens, our mission is to help you grow good things.

Shipping Times, Methods, and Costs?

Most plants are shipped by USPS Priority Mail or USPS . In cold months we only ship by Priority Mail to minimize shipping times and we strongly recommend that you add a heat pack to your order to protect your plants from cold damage. The heat packs are priced low to cover our cost and can mean the difference between receiving a happy, healthy plant or a plant that is damaged or killed by cold exposure. Our mission is to help you grow good things, and that starts with taking every precaution in shipping to make sure your plant arrives in good condition. If there is any issue with your order when you receive it, please let us know.
